5 What are the different stages in Civil Services Examination?
The Civil Services Examination consists of 2 stages.
1. Civil Services Examination (Preliminary) consisting of 2 papers of objective type.
2. Civil Services Examination (Main) consisting of 9 Papers of conventional essay type and a Personality Test (interview).

6 When should I apply for Civil Services Examination?
The notification of Civil Services Examination (Preliminary) appears around the 1st week of December every year in leading newspapers and a detailed notification of the same appear in Employment News. The Preliminary test normally takes place on the 2nd Sunday of May.

8 How should I apply?
You must apply in the common application form devised by the commission for its examinations, which can be purchased from the designated Head Post Offices/Post Offices throughout the country against cash payment of Rs.20/-.

9 Besides IAS/IPS which are the different Services to which recruitment is done through Civil Services Examination?
Besides IAS/IPS there is the Indian Foreign Service(IFS), Indian Revenue Service(IRS),Indian P & T Accounts & Finance Service, Indian Audit & Account Services(IA&AS),Indian Information Service, Indian Trade Service and a host of other Group A & Group B services

10 Who all can make an attempt at Civil Services Examination?
Any graduate between 21 & 30 years of age can apply for Civil Services Examination. Reserved categories viz OBCs can write up to the age of 33 and SCs and STs get unlimited chances within the age of 35

11. How many times can I make attempts at civil services examination?
There are four (4) attempts available to a candidate who wishes to write Civil Services Examination. Reserved categories viz OBCs get 7 chances within the age of 33 and SCs and STs get unlimited chances within the age of 35.
